How to Find the Exact Part for Your Vintage Chevrolet Corvette

One of the major problems that drivers face when shopping for vintage car parts, be it Chevrolet Corvette or any other car, is how to make sure they are getting the right part. The last thing you want is spending money on a part that doesn’t fit your car — simply because it’s not designed for that particular model. So, before you place an order or call a store for discontinued Corvette partshere are a few things you need to do:

  • Know the year of the car - A lot of times, stores dealing in vintage Corvette parts get a call from people who don’t know the year when their car model came out. Knowing the year is important because it helps you— as well as the supplier — figure out exactly which part goes where and what's correct for your specific car. Incorrect information is going to lead to a wrong selection of a part. You can use the VIN or look at your title to know the year of the car.
  • Know the Eight-Digit Part Number -Most parts that GM produced for the Corvette had an eight-digit part number embossed, printed, stamped or stickered on to them, especially in electronic modules. These numbers don't rub off or get torn off due to wetness or moisture. Knowing the part number makes it super-easy for you to find the exact part for your Corvette. If you see a number that is longer or shorter than eight digits or has letters in it, that's not GM.
  • Left or Right – This might seem unnecessary but people often make this mistake, so it’s important to address it. Don't stand in front of the car looking at the hood to figure out whether you have damaged/worn parts on the left or right. In the automobile industry, left and right are always determined by sitting in the driver's seat. When you sit in the driver's seat, anything on the passenger side is going to be right, whereas anything on the driver's side is left. Keep that in mind
